- Repair/replace the crossmember - and start chasing the tin worm around the rest of the chassis.
- Repair the the rusty crossmember, sell the Defender and use some savings to buy a newer Defender or Discovery2.
- Do a proper job and spend my savings replacing the chassis.
My thoughts were:
- Patching the chassis will only be the start of the problems. And since I don't weld it will end up expensive. And I will just be keeping the car on the road rather than improving it.
- Since I can't afford to buy a new Land Rover, buying a newer Land Rover is only postponing the eventual chassis swap.
- As long as I keep, rather than sell, my "upgraded" Defender I will get the benefit of those upgrades.
Since the bulkhead removal, my 90 is comfy enough to live with, and so the decision was made, and I ordered my new chassis on the 1st June 2011.
Since I have been made redundant recently I have a very strict budget. To help keep myself to that budget I am keeping a track of the expected and actual costs in the spreadsheet below.
